Germany is preparing to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the publication of the first Grimm Brothers book of fairytales, reports BBC.

Born in the late 1700s, the two brothers went on to write and publish some of the world's most famous tales, adapted from local folklore, with characters that have become familiar to countless generations of children.

200 years ago the Brothers Grimm published their book of fairytales and they've been read by children and adults ever since.

The first Brothers Grimm fairytales were published 200 years ago. They didn't include any pictures and weren't particularly successful in the beginning.
