Turkey to open International Islamic University

An alternative to the Egyptian Al-Azhar University

Oct.1 By Rufiz Hafizoglu - Trend: The International Islamic University, as an alternative to the Egyptian Al-Azhar University will be opened in Turkey, said the Minister of Religious Affairs of Turkey Mehmet Germez, the Turkish Hurriyet newspaper wrote Oct.1.

He said that the ministry has already submitted an application for the opening of the International Islamic University to the Committee on Higher Education of Turkey.

It is planned that after obtaining permission of the Committee International Islamic University will be based on the 29 Mayıs Istanbul University, he said.

Egyptian Al-Azhar University is one of the oldest universities in the world and the most prestigious Muslim Theological Academy. It was founded in 988 A.D. and is the largest Islamic University in the Middle East.

What does the scholarship cover?

Allowance – For Undergraduate Students 282,50 USD per month

Accommodation - stay in public university dormitories without paying any fee. Students who do not want to stay in these dormitories can use other housing possibilities on their own expenses.

Tuition and Fees - students do not pay any tuition or university fee for education.

Health Expenses - students are covered by public health insurance.

Turkish Language Course – one year course  if they do not have proof of Turkish Language knowledge.

Transportation - get a certain amount of money for their transportation expenses at their first arrival to Türkiye and departure after graduation from Türkiye.

Belarus, Czech Republic, Hungary, Armenia, Estonia, Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovakia and Ukraine.

Turkish Speaking Countries Undergraduate Scholarship Program

For applicants applying to Undergraduate Degree: Those who were born no earlier than 01.01.1992,

For undergraduate and associate degree candidates must be graduated or are likely to graduate from high schools and their equivalents to that of Türkiye’s in the present academic year.
