BURSA, Turkey – A female suicide bomber reportedly hit a historic main mosque in Turkey’s Busra city on April 27.> Big News Network

Reports from the local governor’s office state that the woman detonated the device at 5:26 PM near Busra Grand Mosque’s Western Gate.

Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu reportedly said that the explosion caused by the detonation of the bomb wounded eight people, but not critically.

Reports also added that the explosion shattered glass windows and caused panic among passers-by, who were then led away by police officials.

Further, local police officials are said to have revealed that the bomb, strapped to the torso of the 35-year-old female bomber, may have exploded earlier than scheduled, and this prevented more casualties.

It is understood that no one has claimed responsibility for the attack as yet.

Prime Minister Davutoglu released a statement on state TV channel TRT claiming that the suicide bombing, the fifth at an urban centre in 2016, was “an attack aimed at our nation, our people, our peace.”

It has been noted that, so far in 2016, Turkey has been hit by a series of suicide bombings, including two in Istanbul that the ISIS militants claimed to have orchestrated.
