Sept. 26 By Fatih Karimov – Trend: Iran will sue Saudi Arabia in international courts over the Hajj disaster, said Iran’s Prosecutor General Ebrahim Raeisi.

The Mina catastrophe can be investigated and Saudi Arabian government should be held responsible, Iran’s Mehr news agency reported on September 26.

“It was very deplorable. It can be regarded as mismanagement and imprudence. Not just imprudence, but a crime.”

“I believe that the disaster could be predictable and preventable,” he said, adding that the Saudi government was responsible for the safety of pilgrims.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has blamed mismanagement by the Saudi monarchy for the hajj crush that killed more than 700 people in Mina as he declared three days of mourning for the 131 Iranian citizens believed to be among the dead.

Meanwhile, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, Iran's deputy foreign minister for Arab-African affairs, rejected some media reports that some 30 Iranian pilgrims had been arrested after the Mina disaster.
